I think finding the right balance of who-does-what when it comes to chores can be a challenge in any relationship. My particular challenge has always been around meals and food prep. As the person who does 100% of the grocery shopping and 95% of the meal prep and cooking, sometimes I feel a little burned out in the kitchen.
Don’t get me wrong – I love cooking and obviously, I run a food blog so it makes sense that I would be the one spending a lot of time in the kitchen. However, there are just nights when I really wish that someone else would make me dinner… can you relate? 😉
Awhile back I was listening to a relationship podcast and what has stuck with me was one piece of advice that the co-host gave about relationships. She, like myself, runs a food blog and was the primary person doing all of the meal prep and cooking. However, now that she’s been married for quite some time, she said that she wished she had encouraged her husband to learn to cook early in their relationship. Point taken.
When I got married in December, I began trying to figure out a way to create more balance around meals.
This is where my good friends at Sun Basket come in. Sun Basket is a weekly delivery of fresh, pre-measured ingredients and recipes to make 3 meals. All the produce is organic, seasonal, and sustainably sourced from the country’s top farms. Their boxes include grass-fed, antibiotic-free pastured meats and sustainable seafood from ranchers & fishermen. Plus, you can choose different meals each week – including paleo, gluten-free, vegetarian, options and breakfast!
I’ve worked with Sun Basket and had a subscription with them for quite awhile now and my significant other loves their meals, which is when I realized the solution to my problem had been in front of me the entire time!
Since every Sun Basket meal comes with the ingredients ready and easy-to-follow instructions, all I had to do is pick the meals and then let my spouse do the meal prep and cooking! Boo-yah! Problem solved and it couldn’t be any simpler!
Whether you’re looking for a healthier alternative to take-out during the week, a way to create more equality around meals in your relationship, or just a simple way to eat delicious food, you should check out their meals here! Plus, the best part is that you’ll get your first 3 meals free!
Here are some examples from a recent box (which, I didn’t have to prepare by the way!):
Steak and eggs with tomato-cauliflower “rice”
Gingered turkey meatballs in lemongrass broth
P.S. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Sun Basket’s delivery service is the perfect gift to treat yourself and/or your significant other! Get all the details about their meals here!
