Who’s got spring cleaning fever?
(raises hand) I do!
If you’re on a spring cleaning kick like me, you’ll love this cool trick to clean leather!
Okay, maybe it’s not a trick, but when you see what these two simple ingredients can do to your old leather goods, you’ll be pretty impressed!
This is an awesome way to make old leather furniture look new, or perhaps just take care of your significant others’ shoes which drive you crazy… 😉
Note: I would recommend testing this on a small part of the item before trying it on the entire thing. So far I’ve tried this on these shoes and my leather couch and it’s worked wonderfully!
So, let’s get started!
First, we need to grab white vinegar and olive oil. (The vinegar will help to clean the leather while the olive oil conditions it.) You’ll also need a rag and if you’re using this on shoes, I recommend grabbing an old toothbrush as well.
I used a ratio of 1:1 of white vinegar to olive oil. (I used 1 tablespoon of white vinegar + 1 tablespoon of olive oil shown here.)
Start by mixing the vinegar and olive oil together in a small bowl.
Next, use the toothbrush to rub the mixture into the shoe. (If you’re doing this on a couch or furniture, I’d recommend using a rag instead.) Continue doing this until the entire thing is coated.
Then use your rag to wipe it down and remove any excess.
And voila!!! Your old leather item is brand-new again! 😀
This is a wonderful way to take care of leather shoes (or any leather good) without harsh chemicals! Plus, it saves money and makes items last longer, which is better for you and the planet. 🙂
