I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I really love this cookbook.
A few months back I shared my full review of Anti-Inflammatory Eating Made Easy by Michelle Babb. Since we’re well into the New Year and this is about the time when resolutions start wearing off, I thought it would be appropriate to mention this cookbook again as a healthy eating resource/inspiration guide and… one lucky reader will get a FREE copy! Yay!
Before I dive into why I love this cookbook, I think it’d be helpful to talk a bit more about inflammation and why I think this is such an important topic in the health/nutrition world.
Inflammation is the body’s way of responding to injury and is a natural and healthy state when we’re injured that helps speed up the healing process. However, inflammation is an issue when it becomes chronic because chronic inflammation is linked to a variety of diseases and symptoms, such as achy joints. When it comes to our food choices, eating the wrong types of foods can lead to inflammation, especially if we overdo it on the sugar, processed foods, and refined carbohydrates.
So, what is the anti-inflammatory diet? The anti-inflammatory diet is based on a Mediterranean-style eating plan that includes plenty of vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts, seeds, healthy oils, and fish. It’s also known as a pescatarian diet because the main source of animal protein is fish and the majority of the diet is made up of plant-based foods.
The book starts with resources to help you recognize and reduce inflammation and a 21 nutritional cleanse. What I love about way Michelle structured this diet plan is that there are various meal plans depending on how you like to eat, including if you avoid grains altogether. There are 8 sections of the book, including: breakfasts, healthy snacks, soups and stews, salads and sides, vegetarian main dishes, pescatarian main dishes, hint-of-meat main dishes, and desserts.
In my opinion, this is one of those cookbooks that you will actually use (at least, I do!) because the recipes are so accessible. I love her creativity and the way Michelle combines simple ingredients together to create a beautiful meal (for example, the steak salad with massaged kale pictured above). I think anyone looking to eat more vegetables and create a healthier lifestyle overall would definitely benefit from this cookbook.
